What dependence looks like
Daily use over months. Anxiety and insomnia on days without it. Rising tolerance. Loss of motivation that the person themselves notices. If a person cannot go 72 hours comfortably, they are dependent — regardless of what the strain is called.
The right level of care
Cannabis dependence is almost always treatable on an outpatient basis. Inpatient is reserved for young people with major life disruption, co-occurring conditions, or repeated outpatient attempts that did not hold.
What treatment looks like
A weekly individual therapist, a peer group, and often a short medication course to manage sleep and anxiety in the first 4–6 weeks. Family involvement matters — especially for teenagers and young adults living at home.
